On Tuesday, Emerson grabbed its first road win, defeating nonconference opponent Connecticut College 63-57.
USA Ultimate typically splits the collegiate level into women’s and men’s divisions, but the sport is still new to the Emerson community. Now that the Skunks are working with a co-ed roster, Worth said they are considered an “open” team.
McCafferty is a walk-on for the women’s basketball team. She wasn’t recruited directly by Gould, nor did she send highlight reels or stats to him during her high school career. Rather, she was first accepted into Emerson’s writing, literature, and publishing program, and then earned a spot on the roster after the school year began.
A 30-point lead at the half was trimmed to 14 by the night’s end, but Emerson still handled Dean College easily in non-conference play, 84-70.
The club’s mantra of collaboration and improvement would bring students from different majors and backgrounds.
"I’m really happy with this class,” Gould said. “It’s a really great class, it’s got some depth, just a great class.”
Coaches and players are focusing on some things they can control: toughness, rebounding, and defense.
