Former Elections Commissioner Kassandra King resigned Tuesday, March 12 at the Student Government Association joint session, and was immediately replaced by freshman Jasmine Reyes.
In her letter of resignation, King, a sophomore political communication major, said she is stepping down because under the SGA Constitution, she cannot run for another position while still serving as elections commissioner. She led six elections during her tenure.
Immediately after her resignation was finalized, she was appointed to executive assistant.
Class of 2015 President Nicholas de la Canal nominated Reyes to be the new elections commissioner. She gave a short speech, saying she wanted to be more involved with the SGA. The journalism major also said she spoke to President Tau Zaman and de la Canal about the position, andhad read through the SGA constitution to learn about the position’s responsibilities.
“I am super, super impressed by her,” said de la Canal. “She is so easy to get a hold of, she is super quick and on her game.”
The motion was passed with 13 yeses; four SGA members were not present for the meeting, and their votes were marked as abstained.
