OHRL looks to fill Senior Associate position

The Office of Housing and Residence Life is looking for a new Senior Associate Director. Amanda Turnley, now director of assessment, care and case management in Student Life, held the position until the beginning of the semester.

Erik Muurisepp, director of OHRL, is conducting the search. Muurisepp said he posted advertisements for the job online last week, and asked several colleagues in the department if they would be interested in filling the position.

"We're looking for someone who is innovative, forward thinking, [and] well-versed in the best practices in the field,” Muurisepp said. “[We want] someone that can really step back and look at the bigger picture, as well as take on the day-to-day operations of our department."

The college has already received resumes of many candidates, and more are expected to come in soon, according to Muurisepp. Once the field of applicants is narrowed down, the department will conduct phone interviews. Finalists will be invited to campus to meet with people in various departments around Emerson, including students. Muurisepp said he aims to hire someone by April, and the new administrator should start this summer.

"The position requires a lot of passion for the students,” Turnley, who worked in OHRL for five years, said. “You also have to be really detail-oriented and flexible."

In the meantime, Takara Larsen is acting as the interim in the position. Larsen was previously assistant director in the department.
